I believe that love may be one of the most over used words in the english language. I say this because we love so many things. We say things such as "I love chocolate", "I love to shop', "I love The Giants" (or whatever sport team), "I love this or that show', and ultimately "I love him or her".
We seem to Love everything. It is so important that we as a society begin to take that word a lot more seriously. I think that we because of over use have lessened the power of the word. We have lessened the signifigance of it.
Although this word is being used often there are so many that have never been told or shown that they are loved. There is nothing more important than showing someone love. As the verses below from
1 corinthians explain; no matter what wonderful , humanitarian, altruistic things we do or say it is all for nothing if we have not loved.
If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate.
If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing.
If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.
As we think about this idea and these words let's remember that there are many problems that could be solved by showing love for our neighbors. Once someone feels truly loved or cared for they feel as if they are valued. These people then begin to value themselves and in turn value the lives of others. If more of us show love then this has the possibility of lowering the numbers of many crimes. Future mothers and fathers, if shown love now, may be able to properly love their offspring. This then becomes a cycle of life that produces men and women that love themselves and therfore can love others. This is the way that it is supposed to be. The way that God meant it to be.
